Schema.org - What, How, Why?

Have you heard of, or use, schema.org and Yandex? While some people in the States haven’t, Yandex is a billion dollar search engine, responsible for about 60% of search in Russia, that also provides maps, money transfer, email, and a bunch of other services. Schema.org is a way of tagging, it has brought metadata onto the web in a big way, and about 10% of publicly available websites are using it, including Yandex.

This presentation from Open Web Camp VI explains why search engines now want metadata, how it works, and what you need to know as a developer. ‘Chaals’ McCathieNevile is a consultant, interested in applications and accessibility, currently working as a consultant for the Yandex CTO Office.
