The Web Is My Desktop

For the past couple years, Meadhbh Hamrick has been working on an application that emulates a 1980s era Macintosh desktop. Using a combination of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, her creation puts resizable moveable windows inside a web browser.

It’s open source and Meadhbh hopes that, because it replicates an environment where we can do rapid prototyping for things like accessibility, her project can eventually be used as a tool to test desktop apps.

Her presentation given at Open Web Camp VI consists primarily of a demo, along with a lengthly q&a, in which she tours the app and asks for suggestions. She is actively looking for collaborators, people with a11y and i18n experience, to help make the application accessible to a wider audience.
