Cities create building codes to establish rules for how to construct environments based on seismic and fire prevention. These rules govern the built space so that industrial societies can exist safety now and into the future. But what about the web? Can this idea of building codes be applied to building code?
In many ways, the moment we start developing a website, we are setting ourselves up for failure later, especially when we rush production with an attitude that "we’ll fight fires as they come." We sort of accept this as the normal course of business.
However, in his talk from Open Web Camp VI, Dylan Wilbanks argues that with good practice we can build smarter code, code that is more “fireproof” and more likely to withstand the test of time.
